UEM LAND ORGANISES ICT CARNIVAL IN NUSAJAYA

NUSAJAYA, 11 May 2011: The 2nd ICT carnival, organised by UEM Land Holdings Berhad in collaboration with Johor Bahru District Education Department (PPDJB) and Johor Education Department (JPNJ), created history when it was graced and launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris ibni Sultan Ibrahim Ismail.

The carnival, held at SMK Taman Nusa Jaya today, aimed at educating students and surrounding communities on the role of the latest technologies and ICT in their personal development and future economic well-being. At the same time, the carnival was also aimed at elevating ICT skills in students, teachers as well as education managers and administrators, particularly in widening and integrating the use of ICT at all academic levels. Additionally, the carnival served as a platform for UEM Land’s PINTAR schools to showcase their ICT projects, specifically the Microchip Controller Project’s innovative inventions, developed with the assistance of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The carnival was also organised to aid in self-development and as appreciation of the commitment made by the students and teachers in this project.

The ICT carnival was held in conjunction with “Semarak Mahkota Pendidikan”, a programme planned by JPNJ. The “Semarak Mahkota Pendidikan” was part of JPNJ’s efforts to build a closer bond between the Palace and the students, by engaging His Royal Highness the Crown Prince as the patron of the students’ programmes. Earlier, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince had received and inspected the ceremonial march by 132 cadets of the Malaysia School Youth Cadet (KRS) from four secondary schools in Johor. The ICT Carnival attracted more than 3,000 visitors. Activities organised during the carnival include Inter-school ICT Competitions which comprised Teaching and Learning Module Development Competition, Computer Assembling Competition, innovative ICT exhibition, Computer Quizzes and Pre-School Colouring Contest where students stand a chance to win attractive prizes.

The one-day ICT Carnival was attended by Encik Mohd Nor A. Ghani, Director of Johor State Education Department; Encik Zulkifli Tahmali Yusof Tahmali, Project Director of Nusajaya; Tuan Haji Kamarudin Sa’ayun, Deputy District Officer, Johor Bahru District Education Department; Prof Dr Mohd Marzuki Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; and several other senior management personnel from JPNJ, PPDJB and UEM Land Holdings Berhad.  The carnival culminated with a prize giving presentation to all winners by Tuan Haji Kamarudin Sa’ayun, Deputy District Officer, Johor Bahru District Education Department and Puan Karimah Tan Abdullah, General Manager, Corporate Communication, UEM Land Holdings Berhad
