Towards new technology - Limkokwing University

Posted by mashidayu samsidi at 06:18

TO CONDUCT joint research in new technology, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) recently entered into partnership with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
The collaboration serves to develop “augmented reality” technology, which uses computer-generated data for real-world applications in industry, education, entertainment, military and emergency services.
Unimas Centre of Excellence for Semantic Technology and Augmented Reality director Edmund Ng Giap Weng explained how the technology will benefit the education industry.

“The aim of using augmented reality in terms of education would be to transform the book that students would normally use in the classroom into a book that has a holographic way of viewing it”.
“This will enable students to be able to interact with the book by looking at a pop up from the book,” he said.
With each of the universities having its own areas of expertise, the collaboration will also focus on practical technology research, creative applications, consumer research and collaborative intellectual property development.
Under the agreement, Unimas will supply the technical know-how for the creation of a market for products, while LUCT will undertake consumer research, content creation and work towards getting the final product on the shelf.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two institutions by LUCT founder and president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing and Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid.
Also present at the ceremony were Unimas’ Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development dean Dr Shahren Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
The collaboration will involve six other LUCT campuses around the world and encourage interaction between the staff and students from both universities.
